Day 1: Arrive in San Francisco

Arrive in San Francisco at any time, pick up your rental car and head to your hotel of choice. Perhaps head to Fisherman's Wharf to get a taste of everything the city has to offer from sourdough bread to salt water taffy. Looking for something more active? Choose to explore the city venturing around its many scenic, hilly neighborhoods. Consider hopping on a cable car for an authentic trip around the Golden City for views of the bay or choose to explore from the comfort of your rental car and cruise down Lombard Street, famed for its curvy path. Whatever you choose, the adventure is yours to make!

Day 2: San Francisco

There's always plenty of activities in San Francisco, so for your first full day in the city consider taking a trip out to Alcatraz, what was once a maximum security prison, to learn about life in the penitentiary. Or, maybe you'd like to do some souvenir shopping? Be sure to head to Union Square for excellent shopping and dining, or revisit Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 for a truly scenic shopping trip with sea lions to top off the experience! Perhaps you'd like to enjoy more fresh air? Choose to explore Golden Gate Park for unparalleled views of the famed red bridge, then consider driving across the bridge to make a stop in the charming bayfront town of Sausalito to stroll along their boardwalk for local craftsmanship and dining. Need even more recommendations for what to explore in San Francisco? Our Club Adventures specialists are here to help!

Day 3: San Francisco to Pismo Beach

This morning, choose to stay in the city and explore more, or start your journey to Pismo Beach early - since American Experiences road trips are fully customizable- the choice is yours! On your way south, be sure to take Route 1 for a scenic waterfront drive. Along the way perhaps stop at Big Basin State Park to be awestruck at the towering redwood trees before hopping back on the road to Pismo Beach. Looking for a beach day? Route 1 passes through the popular surf town of Santa Cruz as well as Monterey, the capital of California under both Spanish and Mexican rule and home to one of the most highly acclaimed aquariums in the United States. Continue south passing through the stunning Big Sur State Park and into the heart of Central California's wine country.

Day 4: Pismo Beach to Santa Monica

Today, choose to relax in Pismo Beach or head to the waterfront in Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve for a natural look at California's coast. Looking to get a better taste of the area? San Luis Obispo Country, where Pismo Beach is located, is home to several well-regarded wine regions including Arroyo Grande, known for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, which is just a quick drive from the hotel! Later, start your journey south to Santa Monica, perhaps making pit-stops at more local wineries along the way! It's your trip, so you get to write the narrative.

Day 5: Santa Monica

Embrace the Southern California lifestyle of Santa Monica and choose to bike along Venice Beach like a local on a guided tour or soothe your sweet tooth with a tour of Santa Monica's best spots for desserts! Want to get the full LA experience? Perhaps join a tour of Hollywood or hike to the top of Mount Hollywood. The choice is yours!

Day 6: Santa Monica to La Jolla

Today, head south along the coast to the final destination in your California road trip - La Jolla! Because this area is just north of the Mexican border, expect plenty of mouthwatering foodie experiences to satisfy your palate. Looking for something more active? Consider joining a sea cave kayaking tour to enjoy the surf, sun, and sand of Southern California. Or, for those of you who truly want to embrace the lifestyle, perhaps take a surfing lesson to test your balance along the stunning coastline.

Day 7: La Jolla and Farewell

Leave La Jolla today with warm, sunny memories of your California Coast road trip!
