Additional Information

Day 1 (AUG 25, 2025): Reykjavik, Iceland

Discover this fascinating land where the forces of nature hold sway as you visit the modern capital with its thermally heated outdoor swimming pool, remarkable botanic gardens and folk museum. Explore the starkly beautiful countryside of lava formations, glaciers and incredible waterfalls and the site where the first parliament sat in 930 A.D.

Day 2 (AUG 26, 2025): Day at Sea

Day 3 (AUG 27, 2025): Djupivogur, Iceland

A model town for slow living, Djupivogur is big on serenity and scenery. It sits on a long fjord at the southern edge of East Iceland and a pyramid-shaped basalt mountain rises up behind the town. Some of Iceland’s must-visit glacial wonders are within reach – Jokulsarlon, a glacial lagoon, and the breathtaking Hoffellsjokull Glacier. Closer to port, excellent hiking trails are in abundance and the Bulandsnes Bird Reserve is a popular choice due to the peninsula’s rich birdlife. A nearby open-air artwork is also a claim to fame: named the Eggs of Merry Bay, the installation of 34 large-scale granite eggs represents bird species that nest in the area. Just a short boat ride away, the uninhabited, nature-rich island of Papey is a popular destination known for puffins, guillemots and other seabirds.

Day 4 (AUG 28, 2025): Husavik, Iceland

Renowned as Iceland’s whale-watching capital, the picturesque fishing village of Husavik offers unforgettable adventures to witness a variety of extraordinary whale species. Skjálfandi Bay is home to a diverse array of whales and other sea life, including minke, humpback and blue whales; white-beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises. The Husavik Whale Museum makes an excellent accompaniment to whale watching, shedding light on the ecology of these fascinating creatures as well as the history of whaling. Meanwhile, the Culture House provides an interesting look at the folk, maritime and natural history of northern Iceland. Lake Myvatn and Jökulsárgljúfur National Park make equally compelling day adventures.

Day 5 (AUG 29, 2025): Isafjordur, Iceland

Although remotely located in northwest Iceland and surrounded by ruggedly beautiful fjords, Isafjordur is surprisingly cosmopolitan. The capital of the Westfjords has long been a cultured oasis in the midst of this haunting beauty, fueled by the rewards of being one of Iceland's largest fishing centers. The first merchants lived in wooden houses now preserved in the Neöstikaupstaöur section of town, which is alive with shops and restaurants. Two museums are of particular interest - the West Fjords Folk Museum for tools and heritage items and the Maritime Museum for a look at the 19th century fishing industry.

Day 6 (AUG 30, 2025): Day at Sea

Day 7 (AUG 31, 2025): Day at Sea

Day 8 (SEP 1, 2025): Qaqortoq, Greenland

This charming, colorful town has a pleasant center with a small square featuring Greenland's oldest fountain. The culture project Stone and Man can be seen as an open invitation to explore the town to find the 30 different motifs that are chiseled into rocks and stones by local and Scandinavian artists. The Church of Our Savior from 1832 and the town's two museums are also well worth a visit.

Day 9 (SEP 2, 2025): Paamiut (Frederikshab), Greenland

This colorful fishing village is rich with Inuit culture and a strong connection to the sea. Learn about the town’s history and culture on a guided tour revealing archaeological discoveries that indicate the area was inhabited as far back as 1500 BC. Explore the stunning coastline on a ferry and perhaps catch a glimpse of the minke whales, fin whales, humpback whales and orcas that swim in pods in the surrounding waters.

Day 10 (SEP 3, 2025): Nuuk, Greenland

The largest city in Greenland, Nuuk is the cultural and economic center of the country. Explore the picturesque colonial harbor with its quaint old buildings and the newly renovated market where locals sell their daily catch. Greenland’s history comes alive in the National Museum, and its culture thrives in the Nuuk Museum of Art and the Katuaq Cultural Centre. Nuuk’s extensive fjord system is home to many whales, and the area is also populated by seals, reindeer, arctic foxes, arctic hares and ravens.

Day 11 (SEP 4, 2025): Day at Sea

Day 12 (SEP 5, 2025): Day at Sea

Day 13 (SEP 6, 2025): St. Anthony, Newfoundland, Canada

The quaint, unassuming fishing village of St. Anthony lies near one of history’s most significant archeological finds, L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Park. In this UNESCO World Heritage site, an excavation revealed what could very well be the first European settlement in North America. Browse carefully preserved 11th-century Norse artifacts, explore recreated sod-roofed buildings and learn from engaging Viking-era reenactors. The past also beckons at the Dr. Wilfred Grenfell Interpretation Center, dedicated to a tireless 19th-century physician who devoted himself to aiding the region’s poor, building hospitals, schools and orphanages open to both native Inuit and European newcomers.

Day 14 (SEP 7, 2025): Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada

Start by taking in the breathtaking view from the monument honoring Captain James Cook, the first to map the area in 1767. More history awaits you in the Corner Brook Museum and its marine artifacts, forestry exhibits and collections from aboriginal people.

Day 15 (SEP 8, 2025): Day at Sea

Day 16 (SEP 9, 2025): Saint John (Bay of Fundy), New Brunswick, Canada

Explore Canada's oldest continuing museum, the New Brunswick, where displays include the skeletal remains of a rare North Atlantic right whale. Saint John is also known for the bizarre Reversing Falls, a daily tidal phenomenon so severe it reverses the flow of the Saint John River. Birders will enjoy serene Irving Nature Park.

Day 17 (SEP 10, 2025): Bar Harbor, Maine, United States

Established in the 19th century as New England's premier summer resort city, Bar Harbor was originally called Eden. It's still a seaside paradise, especially for lovers of the outdoors. Hike through Acadia National Park, behold the sweeping vistas from Cadillac Mountain, and watch for migrating humpback whales. The Wabanaki Indian exhibits in the Abbe Museum are also fascinating.

Day 18 (SEP 11, 2025): Boston, Massachusetts, United States

Boston's enormous role during the American Revolution is inescapable, and it's easy to trace by following the Freedom Trail, which links more than a dozen historic sights throughout town from the Paul Revere House to the Old North Church. But don't forgo exploring Boston's appealing modern side. For a 360-degree view of the city, head for the skywalk observatory on the 50th floor of the Prudential Tower. For art, browse the Museum of Fine Arts, which includes works from Van Gogh to Egyptian sculpture. If your interests lie in the natural world, wander through the remarkable New England Aquarium or Franklin Zoo.

Day 19 (SEP 12, 2025): Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, United States

Known for its miles of beautiful beaches, Martha’s Vineyard invites relaxation. Lining the beaches of Aquinnah on the island’s western edge, colorful cliffs topped by a historic lighthouse offer extraordinary views. To the north, Oak Bluffs displays the island’s remarkable charm in its gingerbread cottages and the Flying Horses Carousel, a National Historic Landmark. On the eastern shores, explore the picturesque streets of colonial Edgartown, and then hop a ferry to Chappaquiddick Island to see the serene Japanese garden of Mytoi.

Day 20 (SEP 13, 2025): New York, New York, United States

The Big Apple. The City That Never Sleeps. Call it what you may, New York reigns as one of the world's most dynamic cities. But where to begin? The sacred soil of Ground Zero or stunning Central Park? The Guggenheim or the American Museum of Natural History? Should you take in a Broadway show or simply enjoy the nonstop show of people that parade through the streets? The possibilities are endless in the five boroughs of New York City, so get out and enjoy.
