Day 3: Ketchikan, Alaska
Take an adventure and cruise to Ketchikan, Alaska. Alaska's "First City" of Ketchikan is so named because it’s the first major landfall for most cruisers as they enter the picturesque fjords of the Inside Passage, where the town clings to the banks of the Tongass Narrows, flanked by green forests nurtured by abundant rain. Ketchikan has long been an important hub of the salmon-fishing and -packing industries. Visitors can try their luck on a sportfishing or simply savor the fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants. Ketchikan is also one of the best spots along the Inside Passage to explore the rich cultural sights of Native Alaskan nations like the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian.
Days 4-5: Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada
Prince Rupert is a charming port on the secluded Kaien Island in British Columbia. Passengers on cruises to Prince Rupert will find a close-knit community nestled among jaw-dropping scenery. Vast forest, wide rivers and abundant wildlife make this port an unexpected favorite. Far from other more bustling B.C. cities, it is a gateway to pristine hiking and paddling spots.
Day 6: Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, Canada
A cruise to Nanaimo, a harbor city on Vancouver Island’s east coast, offers a mix of urbanity and natural beauty. Nanaimo’s downtown core showcases the island’s independent spirit with local galleries, trendy boutiques and micro-breweries. Those with a sweet tooth should seek out the Nanaimo Bar, Canada’s most famous dessert featuring layers of chocolate ganache, custard and coconut. Just outside the city, outdoor recreation and intriguing culinary opportunities abound. Visit a cranberry farm, enjoy a family-style meal at a restaurant in Nanoose Bay, or soar over the island in a float plane.
Day 7: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
A Victoria cruise delivers passengers to a charming British-influenced city plunked in the rugged Pacific Northwest. You can have high tea in an English garden and go whale watching the same day. Victoria ranks high for quality of life—you’re always a stone’s throw from a windswept beach or a pint at a convivial pub—and it’s the perfect swirl of city life and nature.
