Day 1 (AUG 2): Athens, Greece
Home to the Acropolis, Athens has quite a reputation to live up to: Named for Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, the city is credited with being the cradle of European civilization and birthplace of democracy.
Day 2 (AUG 3): Ephesus (Kusadasi), Turkey
Kusadasi is your port to the age-old civilization of Ephesus, once the second largest metropolitan area in the Roman Empire, and famed for the Temple of Artemis, one of the wonders of the ancient world.
Day 3 (AUG 4): Heraklion, (Crete), Greece
As the largest city on the isle of Crete, with a history that dates back to the 9th century, Heraklion has seen its share of travelers over the millennia. Discover the many treasures at the Archaeological Museum, regarded as one of the most important museums in Greece. Given that it’s Greece we’re talking about, the food here is naturally outstanding, and comes with a delicious Cretan touch.
Day 4 (AUG 5): Day at Sea
Day 5 (AUG 6): Taormina, Sicily, Italy
A lovely medieval town perched on high cliffs and situated next to the still active Mt. Etna, Taormina offers spectacular views over the bay and rugged coastline and lush crops of olives, citrus and grapes.
Day 6 (AUG 7): Sorrento, Italy
A warming sun and gentle sea breezes have been attracting visitors to Sorrento for two millennia, and its reputation as a playground of the ancient rich and famous have resulted in lavish villas and palaces.
Day 7 (AUG 8): Rome, Italy
Whether it’s tossing a coin in a fabled fountain or being awestruck by the magnificence of St. Peter’s Basilica and Michelangelo’s masterpieces, Rome seems to live up to its sobriquet, the Eternal City.
Day 8 (AUG 9): Florence / Pisa (Livorno), Italy
As the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence and its historic center is bursting with elegant squares, imposing palaces, magnificent churches, incredible art galleries and museums with an abundance of riches.
Day 9 (AUG 10): Nice, France
Nice, Queen of the Riviera, is filled with a treasure trove of archaeological and fine art museums, the famous flower market, and a warren of meandering lanes edged by tall houses and small, alluring shops.
Day 10 (AUG 11): Provence (Toulon), France
Toulon is a picturesque city with a medieval core, an abundance of fountains, and a colorful daily market with a true Provençal character, meaning prime ingredients of garlic, olive oil and herbes de Provence.
Day 11 (AUG 12): At Sea Eclipse Viewing
On a peaceful day at sea, the ship sails to the perfect spot for the solar eclipse. Passengers gather on deck, filled with anticipation, as the sky begins to darken, and a gentle breeze sweeps across the ocean. When the moon fully covers the sun, revealing a glowing corona, a sense of wonder and connection fills the air. For those few moments, time seems to stand still—an unforgettable experience shared with the open sea and sky.
Day 12 (AUG 13): Barcelona, Spain
Dynamic Barcelona is all about architecture, from the magnificent medieval buildings of the Gothic Quarter to the Modernist movement typified by the work of Antoni Gaudi including the amazing Sagrada Familia.
